What happens when I delete my sync account?

Account · Help center · Current as of 2026-10-10

Short answer

Everything the server holds for that account is removed: your encrypted objects, the wrapped key and every registered device. The vault on the device you are using stays exactly as it is and keeps working without sync. Other devices keep their local copies too, they simply stop syncing. It cannot be undone, and there is no grace period. Only audit records holding the internal account number, never your email address, are kept.

How to do it

Settings, then Sync, then Delete sync account. You are asked for the account password — leave it blank if you signed in with Google — and to type DELETE, because an accidental click here is not recoverable. If you only want to stop syncing on this device, use "Sign out, keep local vault" instead; that leaves the account and its server copy alone.

No longer have the app, or cannot sign in? Request deletion by email instead.

What this does and does not remove

Make an encrypted backup before you delete, not because deleting destroys your codes, but because you are removing the copy that was covering you if this device fails.

Starting again afterwards

Nothing stops you creating a new account later with the same address and turning sync back on; the vault already on your device is the one that gets published. Note that your codes keep working at every service throughout, because the services never knew about the account in the first place. What the servers store sets out what was there to delete.
