Which apps can I import my codes from?
Migration · Help center · Current as of 2026-10-10
Short answer
Google Authenticator transfer QR codes, unencrypted Aegis and 2FAS exports, and generic JSON or CSV files. Every import is decoded on your device, so the file never reaches a server, and a preview shows what will be added before anything is written.
What is supported
- Google Authenticator — its built-in transfer QR code. Step-by-step guide.
- Aegis and 2FAS — their JSON exports, which must be unencrypted: KeyNesta cannot open a password-protected export from either. Step-by-step guide.
- JSON and CSV — generic files, and plain lists of
otpauth://links.
Authy is the exception
Authy has no export function, so there is no file to import. Leaving it means re-enrolling each account at the service itself. The Authy alternative guide sets out the dependable order to do that in so you are never locked out mid-move.
What carries over, and what does not
Issuer, account name, secret, algorithm, digits, period and HOTP counters all carry over, and Aegis groups become KeyNesta tags. Custom icons and colours do not; KeyNesta draws its own avatars from the service name. Delete the export file once the preview looks right — it holds every one of your secrets in the clear.
